Peers are calling on the Government to ban Chinese paper lanterns, because of a risk to cows, sheep and other livestock. It seems to me like if anyone is concerned about the safety of livestock, we should ban barbecue before lanterns. The story goes that these lanterns break away, drift in the wind and land in pastures where one cow ate the wire and ruptured her stomach. Statistically the cows odds are much better in a lantern filled pasture than in a beef packing plant that's void of lanterns.
